Purity Matters

Breastfeeding moms widely use lanolin, and healthcare professionals commonly recommend it to soothe sore and cracked nipples. In its raw material phase, lanolin undergoes purification and refinement to remove free lanolin alcohols (FLAs) and pesticides to create a pure product.

In a recent study, Lansinoh Lanolin exceeds the standards set by the United States Pharmacopoeia and European Pharmacopoeia (non-profit, non-governmental, standard-setting entities) for levels of FLAs. Third-party testing was not able to detect the presence of any pesticides in Lansinoh Lanolin (at least above detectable limits, which were between 0.01 and 0.05 mg/kg).

The study shows that the purity of lanolin and removal of FLAs and pesticides is dependent on the level of raw material refinement, and the data further reinforces that highly purified lanolin reduces the risk of allergenicity, making it suitable for use on nipples by breastfeeding moms.
